Backlit Glass Screens Receive CODAworx Merit Award

Backlit Glass Screens at Temple Adath Israel, Merion Station, PA (2014)

I’m very happy to share that my backlit glass screens for the Mandell Sanctuary at Temple Adath Israel in Merion Station, Pennsylvania, received a Merit Award from CODAworx.

The CODAawards, sponsored by the good folks Derix Glasstudios and pollich tallix, exist to recognize the best work demonstrating successful integration of commissioned art into interior, architectural, and public spaces. Modes of recognition each year include selection for the Top 100, juried winners in the ten categories established for each competition, and two People’s Choice selected by public vote.

I shared a bit about Temple Adath Israel in a previous post. The Pietro Belluschi/Charles Wise-designed Mandell Sanctuary recently underwent major renovations led by Atkin Olshin Shade Architects; and among other updates, two backlit glass screens, each 12.5′ h x 11.5′ w, were commissioned and installed on either side of the Ark (the cabinet that contains the Torah scrolls). These screens were designed to infuse the space with new energy, while referencing Jewish symbolism and the synagogue’s history.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the many other fine projects that were selected for awards and the Top 100; this year had a particularly nice mix of strong entries.
